RE: OPD a must on inboard tank?

The 1998 revision of the National Fire Protection Association's Pamphlet 58 requires that all cylinders, 4 lb. (1.8 kg) through 40 lb. (18 kg), fabricated after September 30, 1998 shall be equipped with an OPD valve. Further, any cylinders of these sizes that are re-qualified must be equipped with an OPD valve. If your cylinder is over 12 years old, it must be re-qualified before it can be refilled. It will be retrofitted with an OPD valve at the time of re-qualification. You can find the date of manufacture on the upper collar of your 20# cylinder. Effective April 1, 2002, no cylinder will be filled unless it is equipped with an OPD. Propane Tank OPD Valves

RE: Fixing water damage on the old Dodge (pics)

Well I see you got the roof questions solved. Just spread the faithful blue tarp a little further.

RE: Tight Bridge

Could you build up with timbers, lumber or make a box beam that is the same height as the bridge sides? Put them inside the bridge sides so you could drive up on them. You then would have about 20"+ more width and should be able to cross without having to worry about the wheels/tires or the underside of the house rubbing. That would be near wide enough to cross with out a helper to spot you.

RE: Sunseeker Class C motorhome

I got one. 32 foot 2860. It was a local rental with about 20k miles on it. For the $$ spent they seem to be an OK value. The couch had a broken spring but replaced it with a Flexsteel. The driver and passenger seats were******had them rebuilt. Both were made by Mastercraft. We knew both the problems before we bought it. Like I said their not known to be high-end rigs but for the weekender's I don't think their bad. First thing I did was replace the front shocks to get the front end under control. Was going to install Bilstein myself but the local Les Schwab talked me into using their brand. For what they charged to install them I couldn't afford to DIY. Made the handling of the unit much better. The rental place had an extra leaf spring installed on the left rear as it was leaning to left when they took delivery of it. Might be something to watch for. He thought it might be because of the two slides were a little too heavy for the Ford chassis.

RE: Laptop "start-up"---slooooooooooooooooow

Another good site is Bleeping Computer. It also gives some tutorials for removing nasties if you have one slip in.

RE: What's the purpose of clearance lights

... I want to know about the reflective tape on the trailers, the stuff that doesn't always go all the way to the top. I haven't found the law on that. The Feds wanted something that showed up without the trailer having its lights on. On The rear and sides to prevent the drunks from hitting trailers. Not required to go all the way up to the top. Only has to cover one half of the total length/width spaced evenly out.

RE: Front end alignment shop near portland, or

Might contact Brazel's RV Performance Center in Centraila. Have heard a few good things about them.

RE: Class C Cab rebuild project

One of the first replies suggested a sheet metal shop for the aluminum sheeting. You can also get it at a place that does truck trailer repair. Had a friend that replaced his roof from the rear down about 18" to over the front to the bottom and took out the window. Used all one piece. As for the lights you need the clearance lights as near to the corners as practicable and the three I.D. lights located at the center. All vehicles over 80" (?) wide are required to have them. Look how they are placed on your pictures and follow that.

RE: Oregon Route 58

Going west you will have about 5 miles of 6% downgrade. Its well marked. Rule of thumb is if you make it through the rock cut you can ride it out to the bottom. (Would be a ride I wouldn't care to do though.) ODOT has the road information but it is usually stale.

Thanks for the informative post wa8yxm. I too need to do something similar as the OP. I forgot about the KISS and you made the task a whole lot simpler and cheaper.

RE: Batterty/Heater Question

Not inside. Batteries give off fumes when charging-Sulphuric acid-It stinks, is corrosive and explosive. Used to winter camp long time ago with two kids in a 73 Tioga. Had one battery. Kept one light on till bedtime, furnace set about 50. By morning the furnace would still run but s-l-o-w. No generator. Fire up the engine for awhile and good to go. Might try a sealed battery.

RE: Recommended route through Oregon... I-5 or Hwy 97?

This is just my opinion but I'd rather go the the dentist than tow down I-5 if it's raining very much. (and it usually is) It seems like a solid line of trucks towing triples and the spray is blinding. US 197 is scenic, pretty slow and as I remember has a few tight corners but is all doable. Another option would be going on to Hood River, then take 35 to 26 on Mt Hood. Definitely some out of the way but a much prettier drive IMO. So many nice roads in the Northwest it hard to pick one. :) Not that many triples during the day...most of us are sleeping.:D But at night here we come. I Better get to bed it is light enough for me to sleep now.:B Second the 35 and 26 route. You will be doing more up and down stuff but at least you will see green.

RE: Campgrounds or parks around the Oregon Dalles area?

Maybe he was thinking Columbia Hills List 65 foot site. Go to page two on upper right for more info. I think this would be better for your rig. It is a decent park. MaryHill Maybe MEMALOOSE STATE PARK on the Oregon side West of The Dalles. Sits between the freeway and the Railroad so be a sound sleeper. But it is a nice park. Has some sites that you should be OK for you. The kicker is that you need to go about 3 or so miles further west to return east. Edit: So you know...there is "The Dalles" where you are heading and "Dallas" in the Willamette Valley east of Salem. Some folks get them mixed up. Enjoy your trip.

RE: Recommended route through Oregon... I-5 or Hwy 97?

Go for it. You won't have any problem. HY 197 has a fast, short drop into Maupin and a hard pull going out. Neat little town if you can find someplace to park. Cow Canyon on HY 97 is a long down grade. HY 97 is a major truck route and traffic will move right along. Do what you want but when I run this route I use headlights 24/7. You never know when some @#$% tries to pass and cuts it short. Truth be known I run headlights on all two lane roads. About staying a State campgrounds there is several that you will fit in. Cove Palisades, LaPine, Prineville and Tumalo all have sites that would accommodate you, getting a space on short notice might be a challenge. Oregon Campgrounds Where to after K. Falls? Enjoy the trip.

RE: Bend OR to Newport OR

We made it to Newport on 20-22-18-101. The road was not too bad driving through downtown Salem was a pain. Lots of sharp turns and traffic. We might try the 126-20 route home...still considering it but don't know the road to know how tough a drive it would be compared with the other route. Don't make the mistake of taking HY 242 ( between Blue Rive and Belknap Springs) thinking you are going to save some time. It is closed to all vehicles over 35 feet. If you can park somewhere along the way and take the toad up to the summit it has a view that you won't forget. A short but steep walk to an observation post built by the CCC's (?) you can see most of the Cascade peaks in Washington, Oregon and also Mt Lassen (?) in California.

Like RVJIM said. There must be a reason the pass on HY 20 is called Tombstone Pass.

RE: dead bug adhesion reduction

...SNIP...One thing on Rain X, is that it coats the glass with a film, and I have a friend who swears at the stuff because after a few years, the wiper blades tend to scratch the film it puts on the glass. We don't know a way to remove it. Please post if anyone knows a way. Thanks. To remove Rain-X, hard water stains, and the oily gunk, look for a product called NO Touch Glass Polish or Glass Stripper. There is also some other brands. I get it at NAPA stores. Comes in about a 8 ounce bottle. It looks like liquid rubbing compound and has an very fine grit to it. Will not scratch or damage your glass. For Rain-X it might take several applications. Follow instructions and RINSE WELL. Good wiper blades, and clean glass make for a non-streaking windshield. I quit using Rain-X after I found this stuff.
